Tax Senior Advisor
Martin Kanter started his career as a tax specialist in Chicago, moved to Minnesota, and was a partner in two international accounting firms. Then, in 1990, he jumped at the opportunity to be one of the founders of Schechter Dokken Kanter (SDK).
“It was just a few of us sitting in a conference room. We had to set up a new company and hire people and things were crazy. We were entrepreneurial and wanted create a different kind of firm. Our philosophy then and now is to treat people well, both outside and within the firm, and to hire people who share that value.”
After over 40 years of tax seasons, he has retired, moved back to Chicago, and taken an “of counsel” position with the firm. He continues to advise clients and keep in touch with contacts, while he mentors other professionals at SDK.
“Over the years I’ve made great connections and relationships and I want to spend time nurturing those. At SDK, we believe in giving back to the firm. I am transferring my referral sources to the younger accountants and mentoring them. SDK is committed to supporting the next generation of accountants.”
