The Minnesota Department of Revenue has moved the due date for 2019 Minnesota individual income tax returns from April 15, 2020, to July 15, 2020. The due date for payments due with 2019 Minnesota individual income tax returns has also been moved from April 15 to July 15. The relief is only for individual income tax return filers.
The trust income tax return due date and the date for filing and paying balances due with 2019 trust income tax returns remains April 15, 2020.
Business tax returns due April 15, 2020, continue to get an automatic extension to file Minnesota income tax returns until the later of November 15, 2020, or the extended federal due date. Business tax return payments normally due April 15, 2020, remain due April 15, 2020.
First quarter 2020 Minnesota estimated income taxes otherwise due April 15, 2020, remain due April 15, 2020, for all taxpayers including individuals.
There may be relief available for upon request if either or both the filing and payment requirements cannot be met.
Our industry is currently reaching out to the Minnesota Department of Revenue and our elected officials to try to get Minnesota to match the broader relief provided by the Internal Revenue Service. We will provide an update if there are any related changes.
