Treasury Secretary Mnuchin tweeted that the filing deadline has been moved from April 15 to July 15 “for all taxpayers and businesses.” The IRS is still processing returns and sending refunds although there may be some delays.
The revised filing deadline now matches the due date for most income tax payments previously due April 15. At this time, the second quarter estimated tax payments are still due June 15.
The Treasury Department is expected to have an official announcement with more details later today.
In related news, Governor Walz announced at his press conference today that he intends to have Minnesota follow the federal change in income tax filing and payment due dates from April 15 to July 15.
